Multi-Discipline Outreach Team
Services that Create Change
MDOT is a collaborative resource that provides broad expertise to address prevalent issues affecting the community, including homelessness, quality of life complaints, domestic violence, substance abuse, and associated chronic health life-style issues. These collaborations have developed strong connections that have resulted in team problem solving efforts that include input and ideas to creative and long-lasting solutions..
The outreach team is a collaboration between the Monterey Police Department and the city of Monterey, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Monterey County Adult Protective Services, Montage Health/Community Health Innovations, Monterey County Behavioral Health and the local YWCA to help provide services to homeless people in the area.
officers get to know the homeless on a first-name basis –they know their stories, they know their struggles and often, what is needed is help. But the police department alone lacks the services and skills to solve many of these problems. The county’s Adult Protective Services and Behavioral Health departments, as well as Montage and the YWCA, have social workers assigned to the team who then take this knowledge and offer solutions and services to lead to a better life.
